Crillon, Chaillol, and Paris

Well, a few glorious days in Crillon, where we hiked, went on a wine tour, and sat by the pool, and we were off. The winding road to Gap was the bane of the car sick people, but was very interesting otherwise. The convoy made it relatively easily, with a minimum of losing each other. We spent the next couple of days hiking in the Alps out of Chaillol (very small ski resort town), which is where Luc's mom Annette grew up. Annette led us to some great treks, and we saw many goats. Rosa can actually do a pretty good lamb impression too. Finally it came time to split with the group (although we'll see all but Luc's mom back in Vancouver shortly). A long overnight trip to Paris and we stagger into the Hostel at about 7am... only to discover that we can't actually check in until 4pm... So we put our bags in the luggage storage area (dungeon) and head to Versailles for the day, which is spectacular. Paris is so far consisiting of endless walking, beautiful views, and a somewhat tired and sore Kate and Cam. Eiffel tower and Louvre round 2 (yes we did the night visit after Versailles), and here we are. Next update with pictures when we get back to Vancouver, a whole 1.5 hours after we leave Paris (hello 10 hr flight and time difference).

Besancon and the Sous of France

After a somewhat harrowing trip (we didn't sort out our tickets properly, but it all turned out in the end) we got to Besancon. Luc met us at the train station, and we spent a great couple of days with Emilie's family. Emilie's grand parents were great, and they made us feel very welcome. We also spent an amazing afternoon kayaking down one of the rivers.
A day of driving on the big and bsy highways, and we're in Crillon le Brave, the gorgeous little town that Luc and Em got married at. Claude and Corrine have had their idyllic place here since Emilie was in her early teens. A bit of time in the pool, some hiking, and plenty of eating... altogether an amazing place.

Munich

Got off the train in Munich and within 15 minutes were sitting in front of a litre glass of beer in a beer garden. We have now been to 5 beer gardens in a day and a half. There will likely be more. Also got some non-alcoholic activities in. Went to Dachau (Tony so kindly drove us out). Wouldn't say I enjoyed the experience but very much appreciated the experience. It's a huge place, quite astounding. All was very quiet and somber on the drive back . Came back to Munich and went for lunch in Viktualienmarkt (oh wait that involved beer) then climbed up St Peter's tower for a view of the city. Walked over to English gardens and watched the surfers in the river. You read that right. Got some photos that I can't wait to send to my surfer friends from Tofino. Wandered around the gardens, found a shady spot for a while and grew envious of the Munich lifestyle everyone seems to lead here. It was a Friday afternoon and the place was packed. Now I know why there are so many expats.

Salzburg to Munich

Beautiful day in Salzburg, just in time for us to leave. Legs hurt now... much hill climbing was done (had to prove that the hills were alive). Successfully have avoided German food thus far (This is Kate) although ate ground beef by mistake. Quite traumatic. Off to Munich now.
